Bad fuel pump?

This is driving me crazy. My will be running fine and them it will just cut out. It doesnt stall out it just cuts off. could this have anything to do with the fuel system?

When it dies, do the warning lights on the dash come on?

Does you pump wine? If it does then it's more than likely the pump. Mine did the same thing when my pump went out just sputters and died. It wined pretty loud for about 4 months before it died.

No warning lights come on. And the pump does not whine. How can I determine if this cutting out problem is related to the fuel system?

How loud is this whining?? When I sit behind the car with it running, the fuel pump is about as loud as the exhaust (at idle)

is this right, or is this sign of it going to fail???

thanks...

Based on my experiences with the fuel pump, I would say probably not. I've replaced two of them, and they both tended to to stall out - sputter and stumble for a few seconds, RPM goes up and down, as the fuel pressure goes to zero, and then the engine dies. Or the car would not start at all due to no or low fuel pressure. I did have an intermittent cut off where my car just died whenever I took off hard. After I jerked forward in my seat, a few seconds later, the car would come back to life - ended up being the relay for the computer, under the dash above the computer on my 87. My pumps also hum - not real loud, but you can hear it when you bend down by the rear lights. It is the stock Ford unit, and the current one is about 8 years old.

trb, okay thanks a lot !!!

If your engine is dying, and the warning lights don't come on after it's died, then you've got a bad connection at your battery.

Take care
