rear leaf springs
anybody know of a site that sells some nice leaf springs that will give my car an extra couple inches of lift in the back? im tired of it sagging :-/ thanks for the help, tony

err lemme rephrase that a couple inches above stock ride height ..and u guys think i can stuff a 235 tire in the back or is that too much? this is on a 68 btw

5 leaf?
I use 5 leaf Magnas from Mustang Plus. Mine are actually the mid eye option that drops the body one inch at the rear. I still get 235/60/15's in with only slight wheel well lip modification to prevent rub.
You could use the 5 leafs with standard eye and then use those extended shackles for more lift. I personally don't like those extended shackles but it they would provide extra lift if you really have to have it. Rev |
extended shackles eh ..thats not a bad idea ive never heard of those but yes the concept works. maybe its just sagging cause i need to do a little weight reduction ..(of myself) i could lose some pounds ^ ^ ill be sure to look up those springs and shackles, thanks a lot for your help bro
oh hey what kind of tires do you use? im looking at some BFGoodrich Radial T/A but im not quite sure what to get ive heard that the indy 500 firestone firehawks hook up better but then again im scared of the whole firestone brand |
BFG radial TA's
I use BFG radial TA's, 235/60/15's in rear and 215/60/15's in front. They are fairly hard compound street tires with good longevity and fair traction. I did use Firestone Firehawks when I had 14" tires and they were OK too. I guess I do prefer the BFG's though without any really compelling reasons.

I use 245 50 r16's in the rear and 225 50 r16's in the front. no fender mods for the rear, but I do have springs that lower it slightly (not sure what kind, on car before I got them). The rear did rub on big bumps, so I used coil overs on the rear shocks. A kit u can buy from auto zone for $20-30. My car is in the user rides section if u want to see the final ride height.
Will also depend on the wheels u run on the vehicle and their backspacing. Ryan |
some sort of coil over did cross my mind but when i got under there to look at it, there isnt that much space between the shock i have now and the exhaust pipe (which i had just recently redone) so thats a no go there though i didnt think you could get them for that cheap - i was lookin at coil overs in jegs and they were something around 300 bucks just for the shocks themselves w/out the springs and that kind of deterred me. ill be sure to check my options before i make my final decision i have a pair of 15x8 weld pro stars with 4.5 inch backspacing im going to use on the back and on monday im going to head over to johns mustang to get some 5 leaf springs as well. as for the fender well lip i was thinking along the lines of a torch and a beer bottle to roll it up although id like to know how you did it rev.

body hammer
I didn't need much. Just a couple of isolated spots where the tire contacted on big bumps. I just hammered in the inside edge a little in those spots. No heat involved as I didn't want to mess up the paint.

the coil overs I am referring too are just coil springs, that get bolted over your existing shocks. They are designed to give a car a little extra added hauling capacity (I think these are rated at 700lbs). I think they are no more then 50 bucks.
