My broken T-5

Well,i got my fms hd clutch in today, works good..... problem is, the (whining, clicking) noise is still there http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif guy at the shop said it's gonna need a rebuild 425$ for a total rebuild, my tranny shifts pretty good, stays in gear? they said input shaft was fine, along with the t-o bearing, or he has a low milage t-5 out of a 93 sittin in the shop for 500$, i dont have the cash now, but i guess im gonna have to start huslin fast, i need my car, im afraid to hurt it more by driving it.

So i guess it's a gear, or bearing in the t-5, this sux, also sounds like its in the rear a little.... any opinions? thnx

yea, well that would only be some of the problem, but it doesnt make any awful noises in 4th gr?? why not must be bad gears in the t-5, im not sure what else to think? thnx though...

Oh, and i hear that (clicking) noise when im in reverse backing up?

90dpscoupe 07-08-2001 04:44 PM

Anyone??????????? ever heard this while their t-5 was dying? i just started it, and at idle i can put my ear to the shifter and hear things not right http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif kinda like a whining slight grinding noise? i just want to know how bad this is, what to expect is going out.

Maybe a bearing, cuz what else would make a noise while idling in neutral, when clutch and throwout bearing are new??? its gonna cost 425 for a rebuild, but shouldnt i get it cheaper being it's only minor, and the trans had'nt exploded?

That "clicking" could be the univ. joints on your driveshaft. I've heard of them making that noise, but I see you have an aluminum driveshaft and that's supposed to suppress that.

how can i check those u-joints, i mean can i lay under the car, in neutral, (wheels chocked of course) and turn the drive shaft? i dont really hear the noise in 4th, but it sound's like its starting to.

Actually i think it's worse, i dont think the u-joints would make the chatter i hear in it while it's in neutral? sounds like somethings broke, thnx though i might check it out anyways.

ok, i went outside, jacked up the stang, started checking out the driveshaft, the yoke was actually in pretty beat up shape, it had notches cut where it flexed against the u-joint, also i was driving around slow, with my head out the door trying to hear the noise, it's definately coming from under the car somewhere, also i noticed this problem started only on (deceleration) but now happens when i gas it too, my aluminum shaft is pretty old now, about a yr 1/2, so i may try and stick my stock driveshaft on, and see if that dont shut it up, if it does, im gonna feel stupid http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif blueneonman, i think your on to something though, i'll keep posted thnx...
