Junkyard parts....

I want to put disc brakes and 5 lug wheels on my 65, which only has 4 lugs due to its straight six. What I am wondering is what models/years can i take off the spindel, hub, and disc that will just bolt right up to my mustang?? I was looking on ebay, and it seemed like they had alot of 78 grand marqius (?) front brakes and spindles that they said would bolt right up to my car. What will work the best??

I'm not sure about the front spindels, but you could bolt that whole rear right in. You get the 9-inch rear and disc brakes at the same time.

This is called a GVM swap.

Granada
Versailles
Monarch

1968-1973 Mustangs torinos and a few other ford/lincoln/mercury's will work as well.

This can also work for the rear without having to go to a 9 inch rear-however the 9 inch rear will likly get you positraction.

Im taking this info straight ouy of the Mustangs plus catalog, which has a full section (in their paper catalog) on parts you may need for this swap.

heres the free plug:

Bests results come from a full conversion kit like SSBC, but a gvm swap will be a lot cheaper

if you decide to go with a 9 inch rear i have a small bearing one and i have 1998 ford crown vic disc brakes in the back - they bolted right up you just have to take the little abs sensor off - only bad thing is that you have to get different emergency brake lines and move the bracket somewhere else to mount them

went with SSBC in the front - it came with everything i needed and bolted right in

I already bought a 8 inch rear end, it was out of another 65. I think i might of gotten ripped off though, 200 bucks, plus i found i have to get everything new for the brakes. Thats how it goes though. The gvm swap huh?? Sounds pretty good to me. I would like to get a SSBC kit, but that is too much money, money which i would like to put into my engine. Im going to be sticking with drum brakes in the back, and then disc's in the front. From napa, everything i would need for new drum brakes in the back would be $265. Money's short, i work at kmart and am 17, haha. But its coming along, thanks for the help.
