Roller Rockers?
Yes it's me again the newbie with a thousand questions...lol. What are the advantages of the 1.6 or 1.7 RR's over stock, and do you get any kind of performance boost?
|
Well the stock rocker arms are stamped...so a roller rocker is far superior to that. The bearings and the whole design is much better. I don't know if you'll get any performance gain from switching to 1.6rr. Besides the benifits of reduced friction and all that good stuff. But the increased ratio of a 1.7 with give you some additional lift.

Thanks for the quick reply, still don't know some of your terminology though...lol....what you mean by more lift? Also by changing to 1.7rr's do I have to change cam or anything other than stock?
|
Roller rockers multiply the lift from the cam lobe. So you have a cam, then roller lifters which roll on the cam lobe. The roller lifters push a push rod that pushes the roller rocker. Which it turn opens and closes the valves. So if you want to change your rocker arms you do not need to change the cam. Rocker arms multiply lift from the cam lobe like I said earlier so if you have a cam with say .300" cam lobe lift times 1.6 that would give you .480" of valve lift. Now say you put a 1.7 rr on that would give you .510" of valve lift. Hope this makes sense.
-Ryan Fogot to add that 1.6 and 1.7 is the rr ratio. Which means that it is 1.6:1 or 1.7:1, 1 being the cam lobe. So 1.6 or 1.7 times the cam lobe. |
yes u can run the 1.6 roller rockers or the 1.7's with a stock engine. They would be an improvement over stock.

I RAN 1.6'S FORD RACING ROLLERS AND IT WAS A NICE IMPROVEMENT. MUCH QUITER VALVETRAIN, AND RPM PERFORMANCE. ROLLER ROCKERS ARE GREAT FOR ANY APPLICATION STOCK OR NOT.
|
One more advantage
One more advantage to RR's is that they are more accurate in the ratio that is actually provided. Stock stamped rockers are made to looser tolerances than the more expensive RR's so when you buy 1.6 or 1.7 RR's, that's pretty much what you will get with not much variation between cyliders.

Thanks guys that was awesome responses, answered all my questions to the T and very well explained.

Oh yeah guess the only thing left is how do I install them....lol. Sorry just a quick question, I don't have to take heads off to change them do I? Just the valve covers right? And is it a hard job to change them?
Thanks in advance. |
