Fiberglass work?

I was wondering if anyone here knew how to fix fiberglass? I have a 3 1/2 inch cowl hood that has about a 1/2 inch chip in it and its needs to be fixed.. I'm not a serious body work kind of guys so I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me how much this might be to get fixed or if it is easy enough for me to fix it right out of my garage.

thanks,

Where is the chip? Is it on the end or is it on a flat part? There are body fillers made especially for fiberglass if it's in a flat part. If it is in the end you will need to mix up some resin and put some fiberglass cloth in it. Be sure to put enough resin in to fill the chip, then put some cloth in it for strength. let it dry until hard and block sand it, and finish with filler until it's smooth. It's not a hard job if you read the instructions on the fiberglass kit.

yeah the chip is on the side of it. I'll try that and see how it goes... I bought the hood from a friend and I didn't get any instructions or whatever.. but I'm sure I could find that somewhere on the internet.

Good luck with it, it's not hard work, just takes some patience.

thank you for the help. I'll probably start fixing it this weekend.

hey, I almost forgot. Wear a mask and long sleeves and gloves when sanding, fiberglass is ITCHY!!
