Made the decision...I'm stepping up to Victor Jr EFI

I've made the decision and ordered a Victor Jr. EFI setup for my 393W. My current combo is and has always been a mismatch: Edelbrock Performer RPM upper, 351W truck lower 9pt. # 3880...if anyone has the specs on this please let me know), a 70MM TB, 30 lb. injectors, 75MM MAF, and a BBK Cold Air Kit. I've noticed on the track that I die after the 1st 80 ft, and my top MPH EVER was a 105. I run consistent 12's, but I know that this motor can make more power. I'm looking to get into the low 12's, and get in the 110-115 MPH range. What I'm moving onto is this: http://edelbrock.com/automotive/index.html

along with a 75MM TB (Check this link and let me know if this is a good deal: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW)
I've never heard of these people before but the price is good. I'm going to keep the BBK Cold Air setup for now, along with the 30 lb injectors and the 75MM PRO-M MAF unit.

The more important question here is....am I going to make more power considering I'm keeping the Performer Heads?

I think the RPM is a good match for the heads you currently have. If you aren't planning on revving the thing a ton higher than currently, then I would bet you would actually lose horsepower with the victor intake.

I would suggest keeping your current intake, maybe porting it some, and getting some better flowing heads.

That's a good point but how can I make good power when the RPM range on my lower intake is rated 1500-5500? Aren't I losing a bit of airflow in the 5800-6300 RPM range, when I need it the most?

ohh, i didn't read the truck lower part of your original post. Definately get rid of that thing:)

What cam is in the car? Is it something that will let you benefit from the high rpm capabilities of the victor intake?

Stang_ROTY 08-15-2004 05:20 PM

Well...the cam is a Ford Performance Solutions custom grind from FRPP "Z" cam design. The truck lower was all they offered at the time I built her, and now that I have spent time analyzing my runs & talking with people I just think that the engine needs a bit more air and timing. The funny thing about my lower is that it's stamped with a 3880 part number and I can't find that part number anywhere else.

You definetly made the right desicion on the Edelbrock intake. They are sweet peices.

Thanks...what can I expect in gains? I imagine that this will help me a little bit on my MPH.

Here is some positive news for you. On the 393 I helped my friend build we went from a 65mmtb to a 75mm tb and larger cold air intake and picked up 32RWHP.:D

Thats pretty sick for just a TB and Cold Air setup.. Sweet!!!

Which larger cold air intake? I've always thought that the BBK is a bit small but all the other's suck in hot engine air, whereas the BBK puts the air filter in the fender well

I think those Performer heads are way too small for a 393. Like, WAY too small. They're barely enough to feed a moderately built 302. A set of Victor Jr's would make a ton more power, as with the matching intake. You have a lot of cubes in there and need the airflow to make power.

Agreed. The early performer heads are not that great.
