one wheel wonder

at the track tonite a fellow stanger told me that only one wheel was spining when i cleaned then off so its time for a rear end rebuild. Is there one kit that is better than others?

Auborn Pro?

If you are looking for a limited slip, I like the Auburn Pro. Several others here like it too. Do a search.

ya know i cant ever remember changing it. didnt really know you had to. does the friction mod go bad over time?

rwhite65 09-21-2004 12:01 AM

well, u know I really dont know if it does or not...but seems like a simple thing to eliminate....only be out a possible 15 bucks vs. a new carrier.

does gear oil need to be changed ever? if so, how often? i always thought changing was not needed........

with the heat generated out of the differential, I always assumed that probably broke down the properties of the oil over time.

makes sense, i assume the 126k miles would do that to the stock fluid! i was just concerned that changing it after so many miles, as in my case, might do more harm than good. maybe all the crap in there will be let loose. any thoughts?

Wear out

My limited slip clutches always wore out (20,000 miles) long before the gear oil could wear out, LOL. I finally went to the Auburn Pro recently just for that very reason. I'll just have to wait to see how long it lasts.

Replace the clutches in the rear end with carbon fiber clutches. They come stock in 03 cobra's and you can buy them on ebay for 80 bux.

I have the carbon fiber clutches in my rear end with 3.73 gears and I am pulling mid 1.6 60 fts.

How hard is it to replace those? Other then switching third members out....no experience there.

Its very easy and self explanitory. When you remove the stock clutches just make note of how the clutches and disk stack. Then you stack the new ones the same way.

As far as getting the old ones out just remove the S spring and they come right out.
