Which year Stang is the lightest from 79-93?

Hello everyone, first time poster here. I used to be a huge racer 10 years ago, and am now trying to get back into it.

I am looking at building a Mustang, years 79-93. I want to start with the lightest model possibly (years ago I raced an Impala, that slob weighed 4K+) :D

I would imagine the notches are the lightest, but I was not sure about the 79-86 stangs. If I was to get a pre 87 one, I would probably replace front and rear body parts with 87+ parts.

Thanks.

From 79-93 they're all pretty much the same weight for each model.

The Coupe/Notch is the lightest of the group. With Hatch and vert being heavier. IMP the coupe looks cooler too.;)

Thanks. I love the notch, they are just a little tougher to find.

You might also want to look for one that came with no options which add extra weight.

That chart is perfect. Thanks.

As suggested, I will look for a no option LX sedan.

Notchback is your best bet. You must be in a bad place, notchbacks are a dime a dozen around here.
Good Luck

They are available, you just have to pay through the nose compared to a hatch.

Get a 4cyl notch and just replace the fenders hood and trunk lid with fiberglass ones, drop in your motor of choice and go racing, thats my opinion.

Shelly87 09-26-2004 04:44 PM

Scrapla, I think you have the right idea. Since I will be replacing a good amount of the parts (rear, trans, motor, suspension) , why waste the $$$ on a 5.0 stang. I will go for the 4cyl and save some cash.

There are 2 around my neighborhood, an earlier 80's sets 1 block south of eldorado high school and another is a daily driver exactly like mine but a little rougher that is located about a mile from my house on Alexander Rd. Both are dopers, There is an early 90's some lady drives around eldorado again identicle to mine, body and paint is presto on it. the only things are the wheels and luggage rack on trunk lid. they arent real hard to spot out you just got to keep your eyes open for these cars
