Turns over won't start
I'm posting this for a friend that has a 89 mustang LX 5.0. His car has been sitting for about 5 months and now it won't start. The engine turns over fine but if will not start, doesn't even try. I pulled the gas cap off and had him turn the key on and I do not hear the fuel pump running at all. Could it be the fuel pump or the relay under the seat? Is there any way to test either one of these without pulling the fuel tank out? Thanks and any help would be great. He also said that he put some kind of fuel stuff in it before he stored it, to keep the gas from going bad. Any tips on getting this thing running again would be great.
Thanks |
The relay wouldnt go out from the car sitting. This is a common problem for cars that sit for long periods of time.
Its time to drop the tank and change the fuel pump and filter. |
Reset the fuel pump inertia switch first and see what happens. You should be able to hear the pump for the first couple of seconds when you turn the key.
Got Spark? The TFI module on the distributor could be bad. |
Got it fixed, It was the ignition switch.
The car runs good, but now it blows white smoke out the tail pipes. What would cause that? Thanks |
Probably water in the exhaust from sitting so long. A few heat cycles and it should burn out.
