Beginner Questions

Please indulge a beginner to this forum with the answers to a couple questions-

(1) We are considering the purchase of a 1989 (Fox) GT. Did the factory offer various power options in the 5.0L? If so, what were they? If not, what is the nominal HP and torque of the factory motor? Flywheel? Rear Wheels?

(2) Did the factory offer any options to the 5-speed, its gear ratios, or to the final drive ratio? If not, what are the factory standard ratios?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The 1989 Ford Mustang was rated at 225 HP and 300 ft/lbs of torque from the factory. You'd see around 195 HP at the rear wheels probably in stock trim. That was the only engine option. You either had a 4-cylinder or the 5.0L engine.

The only option I know of off hand was that you could order a Mustang through those rears with a 3.08 rear-end gearset versus the standard 2.73 gearset. Either AOD or Borg Warner T5 manual.

Hope that helps... :)

He did ask for final drive ratios which I also took to mean rear end ratios, but I SWEAR your first response had 3.73 as the standard factory ratio and I thought it was a typo. No matter, he got his info.

It was. I think I was editing the post to correct my typo right as you were posting your response pointing it out or something.
