Steering slop

I've noticed lately, (i.e. since the car has been running again [the '93]) that she has a lot of slop in the steering, especially on the roads up here. I was wondering if replacing the tie rod ends would fix this? She has about 1 1/2 of play just tooling down the street. I just checked the Chilton, and it didn't really have anything to say on the subject.
She needs an alignment and a new tire something fierce, (next payday) , but at 120+k I guess things like this are bound to start popping up.
Thanks,
J

You probably have worn tie rods if you have a bad wearing tire. Have the front end checked, including the balljoints, and get an alignment after its all fixed up.

Could also be your steering shaft. Maximum Motorsports and a few others make replacements that do away with all the rubber, which is probably shot by now, and replace it with needle bearings.

Yeah, thats about what I figured. I'm going to check into the tie rods first, since its cheaper.

Thanks for the confirmation,
