3.73, 3.90 or 4.10?
Guys, I finally have a beater to drive now, and my stang sits in the garage except for weekends, or track visits. So i want more gear now, but dont want to buy different slicks.
I run a 26x8.5 m/t on 15in draglite, will i have to shift to 5th in the 1/4 with 4.10? I DONT WANT 5TH gear in the 1/4........ im looking for low.mid 1.6 60's if possible though, how about the newer 3.90 ratio? also im putting 4cyl springs in the rear, and probaly 70/30's up front. Right now i have stock struts/springs and lak 50/50's in the back, im looking to pull the wheels just a tad on a 5k launch. :) btw, i hear in an old thread you dont want 4.10's on a car unless it can pull to about 6500 rpms, or else it can slow you down, is this true? thnx for any opinions. |
Re: 3.73, 3.90 or 4.10?
With a 4.10 it looks like you'd be going through the traps at about 5500-5600. That is using your trap speed that you have listed in your sig, and I figured your tire rollout at 82 inches. Its better to measure the actual circumference of the tire instead of calculating it based on diameter. They can be as much as a couple inches off. Obviously if you do some more mods to increase power, you will have more MPH and run through the traps at a higher RPM.
I recommend the stock V8 springs for the rear, and the 4 cylinder springs up front. Andy |
Re: 3.73, 3.90 or 4.10?
well with it colder now, i could probaly see that trap again, but on slicks it averages 105.
5600 rpm sounds good, my e-cam should'nt die off too much at that point, i guess only a dyno will tell. ok, well i'll keep the rear springs, and do the fronts only. thnx for the input. well now im worried about spraying it, i guess i would just have to get taller tire when i install the juice, thanx alot, 4.10 it is! |

Do not be afraid of gear, I run 4.30s and still occasionally use my 26es. :)
