Transmission ?? T-5,C4,C6

I am trying to decide which transmission to go with, my car already has a t-5 in it(87 GT). But after I get the engine all sorted out I will be making alot more ph & tq then the t-5 can handle. Plus I am tired of the stick. Which tranny would be best to handle 500+ hp on the street and the strip.  next year I will swap out my 306 for a 331 so this tranny decison has to play out riight for this combo and my next.

You don't want to shift anymore so don't put a stick in it. You also want to run it street/strip. The C4 is a great old tranny. Pretty efficient, light, and quick shifting. It's also got 3 gears, and if you want to run hard at the track with an auto, you best be looking into a high stall converter and some gears. Gears with a 3spd auto, a high stall converter, and no overdrive makes for more rpm on the highway than what you might like.

Auto overdrive is simply the way to go. The AOD's get a lot more efficient with a lightweight performance converter, and they can be made to shift hard, take a ton of power, and run reliably.

The C6 is a dumb move for almost any small block. It's a pita to install, and it's a heavy power sucking transmission. Though very beefy, it's also overkill for all but a few small blocks. It's going to cost you time at the track, and hit you in the pocketbook when you go to fill up.

Personally, the move to the Lentech AOD was the best thing I've ever done for my car.

I agree with Jeff. Ive got a stock AOD in a 88gt. 2.73 gear and itll bark 2nd everytime. From what Ive read about the Lentech trans, they are amost bullitt proof. I havent had my car a year yet, but when i first got it it shifted like crap. Ajusted the TV cable and man did it come to life. Ive got new 3.55s for it just not in yet along with other mods. No time LOL. C-6 and C-4s great tranys but the OD is nice on the pocket book when it comes to 2.00 gal gas. Ive got a C-^ in a 76 f250 pushing 275,000 still works great.

As much as I love my C4 in my '69, I agree with these guys and think a built AOD would suit you best.

I've got two converters, a 7" and 8". The 7" is stalling around 5900 and the 8" is unknown right now (its freshly rebuilt) but we are hoping to get another 300 or 400 rpm out of it.

I'm shifting 1-2 at 8100, 2-3 at 7800 and locking it up at 6500. All this puts me through the lights at 8300-8400 at 132+ mph on a 26x10.6 E/T drag with 4.88 gears.

wow!!!!wow!!! I've looked at your website, and at the picture of your car (engine) What valve train are you running (with out valve FLOAT) that enables you to make 8100 rpm 1-2 shift and 8300/84 through the trap,,,,,,and it all holds together?????!!!!!! WOW! And What ford short block are you using????

Valve train is all titanium, 2.055" int and 1.625" exh with stock lifters, stud mounted rockers and thin-walled, restricted tip pushrods. The block is an 8.2" deck height R-block. All of the parts of my car are listed in detail in the 'The Car' section.
