I use a 625 CFM Road Demon on my 306. It seems just about right. I would think that the 670 CFM Holley would be right at the upper limit for your 289. You can get away with a little over size since it has vacuum actuated secondaries. I certainly wouldn't go any bigger on that 289. Set the line pressure to about 7.5-8 psi. That should be plenty and won't over power the needles & seats on the carb.

thanks for the info...i heard from local parts store that that 670 holley str/av is more reliable and EASIER to keep tuned....do you think they're right or just telling me that.Iam having so many problems with my 650 d/p i am ready to make fishing weight out of it and its only 6mos old.

DoublePumpers can be more difficult to tune. Vac secondarys will make your life a lot easier. Tho I would either go for a 600 or 650.

So what carb should i buy?670 holley street avenger will give room to increase power later but a little too much now,570 holley street avenger would be enough for now but not later when i do more head work or buy heads and higher output cam.my local shop dont like the road demon...saying they caused problems and wouldnt back up the product and then there is edelbrock?

Ive heard good things about the Edlebrocks, but dont have any exp with them myself. As to size, I would just split the diff and go with a 600, not too big right now and you can get some good numbers without having to upgrade so soon with some tuning.

I'd either go with the Road Demon or the Street Avenger. IMO stay away from the Edelbrock. I have an Eddy 750 manual choke on my '69. I haven't really had any problems with it and it's easy as hell to tune and work on, but you can make a lot more power with a Road Demon if you get it tuned right.
