Anyone using 351 swap shorties PLEASE HELP!!!

The damn headers keep rubbing against my steering shaft. I'm using the BBK jet-coated I'v even tried placing a washer under the mount to act like a shim. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I read your other post and it seems to me that you have the wrong headers. I think you have 302 headers. I would ask the place where you got them if they are for a 351w.
The 302 headers will fit the engine but they won't fit in the car!
Trust me, I found out the hard way!

I used the MAC 351 swap headers and didn’t have a problem, however when talking to people about the swap I was told that I may need a off set steering shat because the swap headers may come in contact with the stock shaft.

I didn’t have to get the off set shaft, but it looks like you do, call the people at Holcomb Motorsports (SP?) they have them in stock.

You could always just place a small dent in your header where the rubbing is. I had to do this on my 302 shorties. Although, if jet coated, you might not want to take a hammer to them?

Well, I put the tranny in and it helped a little. It's barely rubbing now and I can't feel anything while turning the wheel. I still had to shim the motor mounts with a washer (I called Holcumb and they told me to try it). Am I safe now??? Like I said before, it looks really close but it doesn't "feel" like it's rubbing when I turn the wheel.

The stock rack seemed to fit better than the Flaming River, so I'm sending that back to Summit. Personally, I think Flaming River is crap. I called them and they told me their rack and shaft was designed for a 302, not a 351. But I bought the shaft from Holcomb so I have to eat that. I hate wasting $$$. As far as me having the wrong headers....I think they are correct. I checked my receipt and box and the part #'s are correct. For some reason I think my problem came from the larger Energy Suspension mounts. What do you all think?
