66 transmission emergency! please help

long story short- full exhaust system breakdown due to age (not replaced for about 30 years I'd say), thought it was causing my car problems moving around, etc., just had it replaced an hour ago

get home, there is a long hose hanging down- is this the air hose
for the transmission (it's not shifting correctly, and running hot),
if so,

WHERE DOES IT PLUG IN? I've crawled underneath, but simply can't find it. It comes from just below the air filter

automatic transmission, 66 straight 6

I have to go drive it right now, will check here later

ok, went and bought some flashlight batteries, borrowed an extra jack from my roommate, got it high enough to crawl under there, finally found the little opening it goes in way in the back of the trannie, it's awfully loose, I'll buy a clamp or a new hose when I get the chance.... dang too much oil down there.... other probs to deal with sigh...... This is my old backup/project car, but now it's THE car, other one go stolen this week :(

What you are referring to is the vacuum hose from the intake manifold to the vacuum modulator on the tranny. You dont need clamps on the tranny connection. What you do need is new flexible hose where it now exists on the line from the intake to the tranny. Part of that line is steel and probably does not need replacement. This should be a straight forward repair requireing little time and effort.

ok, thanks- the starter line half burned through as well, it is bare and
the wires are separated! (the muffler pipe was loose and seems
to have knocked things around)
