31 spline pinion gear..
 
I need some help. I have a stock 87 GT and have purchased a 3.73 ring and pinion set. The spline count on the end of the pinion gear is 31. I can't seem to get a good answer if that will work on my stock rearend without changing the flange. I understand that the stock flange is 28 spline. Is that correct? Thanks.

Don't confuse the companion flange spline count with the actual axle spline count. You'll be OK.

Right, what Jeff said. The 31 splines you're talking about are on the pinion gear itself. The 28 splines you're talking about are on the AXLES, and have nothing to do with your gear swap. You're OK.
