Transmission costs and questions

Hey, a friend found a 4spd tranny out of an 81 ford 2wd truck, for $200. Is it worth it?? He was saying that it has "granny gears." The engine it is hooked up to is a 300 inline 6. I would be bolting it up to a 79 302. Would this bolt right up, or is it a better idea to just find a T-5? If I went the T-5 route, do i need that adapter plate or doest it just bolt right up?? Thanks for any help!

I doubt you want a granny gear in a Mustang, I would get a T-5. A granny gear 4 speed would essentially be a 3 speed, unless you use the granny in bad winter weather or something. There would be no performance reason to use that, in fact, unless it is trashed, whatever you have now would probably perform better. The granny gear is a really low gear made for pulling heavy loads from a dead standstill, you find them in things like dumptrucks.

alrighty, thanks for the info. I think my friend was trying to rip me off or make some money, i really dont know why. He can be a a$$ like that sometimes. The way it sounded is that he could have gotten the tranny for free, but wanted to charge me for removing it??! crazy huh.

Sometimes doing business with friends is not all good, money does strange things to people. Aren't you glad you posted the question?
