is the ricer fad finally dying?
i keep seeing less and less ricers in my part of the country.my little town even has 5-6 11 second street stangs driving around. the highschool parking lot is starting to look normal again with mustangs and camaros that have v-8s not v-6s. its also been a while since a rice movie has came out. even the video game underground 2 has a mustang as one of its fastest cars. is this just happening here or is it hapening every where. :D

Re: is the ricer fad finally dying?
I wish it was, but I think it'll be around for some quite some time. I have noticed in my area that the rice seems to have deceased some. I think it is mostly due to winter though. Or maybe I am just not paying enough attention. Who knows? We'll probably see the previews to the Fast and Furious 3 during the superbowl. God I hope not.

Re: is the ricer fad finally dying?
There just getting started good around here. But, I also live in a small town to. They all sound like pi$$ed off bees to me HAHA. There is a black Probe running around here that also sounds like that and has stickers all over it.

Re: is the ricer fad finally dying?
The fad is alive and kicking down in Miami. I was down there a week ago and it was rediculous how many cars had body kits, neon, 'dubs', and big ol tailpipes.
Up in PA I haven't seen too many of them...then again it's winter and everyone usually hibernates until April. |
Re: is the ricer fad finally dying?
To paraphrase an old saw:
Good taste is skin deep but tacky goes to the bone :) The only thing to "kill" off the current generation of rice will be them getting old enough to realize how silly they look. (Think 40somethings nowadays who shudder when cleaning the old leisure suits out of the closet) The bad part is that there will always be a new generation to take their place on the Annoying/Obnoxious/Idiotic frontline. To combat this our children must be taught the value of the V8, the strength of functionality and the wisdom of understatement. Thus the battle against stupidity will continue. Or am I romanticizing it too much :D J |

Re: is the ricer fad finally dying?
Thanks!, I think all it needs is "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" to start swelling in the background as you read it :D

Re: is the ricer fad finally dying?
I forgot where I read an article on rice (I believe it was Hot Rod). they stated that there was less parts for rice at SEMA and that NHRA is either dropping the front wheel drive class or combineing it with another class. But YES!!! Rice is fading away into a bad memory!!
It's cold out there!!! |

Re: is the ricer fad finally dying?
Well, I know for sure that there will be a 3rd F&F movie. I just don't know when.

Re: is the ricer fad finally dying?
I'm with 82GT on this. Some dumb bastard will break his piggy bank and spend every penny he owns just to make another part to that stupid ass movie.

Re: is the ricer fad finally dying?
*laughs*
I agree, depending upon where you go it changes, even down here in Georgia where I am. I still see a bunch of ricers running around with their freakin' grapefruit shooters and babystrollers... but then when I pull into the parking lot for work I see a 'stang here and there mixed in (yeah mixed in some other really nice luxury cars, but mostly SUVs and trucks) |
Re: is the ricer fad finally dying?

Re: is the ricer fad finally dying?
I'm noticing more of a 'Ghetto craze' happening lately...or mebbe it's because I'm driving a car as old as I am. :( I swear, though, I've seen more 70's and 80's box cars out on the streets. However, I do believe winter is a strong factor here. It definitely is in my situation. It feels somewhat safer in a car with a V8 that weighs in the neighborhood of 4000-5000 pounds when you get around 3 feet of snow a week!

Re: is the ricer fad finally dying?
The 'ricer' will go the way of the 70s van. They had some nice vans back in the 70s. I think the Supra started the craze. A $40k Japanese super car?? That car was bad and well worth the money.. well, in retrospect. Only problem is the guys with the eclipses(they couldn't afford a Supra to start with.. neither could I) are now realizing the money it takes to make them and keep them fast. By the time they can afford to fix them they are moving up to a SUV or something classy. Ricers are a fad. The Hispanics like them though.
