installing shift kit

I'm thinking about ordering a B&M shift kit and installing it myself but
when it comes to automatic trannys, I don't know didley squat.
Is this something, like myself, can install without screwing anything up?
I understand that it's pretty much dropping the pan and VB and putting it back in place. Is this something I could do in about an hour or so without trouble?

An hour would be a generous estimate....kinda a messy task, but fairly straight forward. Probably going to have u change a valve body gasket, and switch a few of the balls around. May have u change a spring or two in there....nothing this board can not get u thru.

I would say it is less difficult than installing a cam. If you can get thrpugh a cam install a shift kit should be cake.

It was fairly tedious but nothing about it was difficult. Just be careful, take your time, and pay attention to what you're doing. It took me about three hours to complete starting from when I walked into the garage and lasting until I was completely finished and had taken it on a test-drive.

Also, if you don't already have a transmission drain plug installed on your pan this would be a great time to do it.

Ok...so what are some good kits? I was looking at one from B&M from Summit Racing. I've also heard that Transgo makes good ones too.

Re: installing shift kit

B&M and Transgo would both be a good choice. I have a B&M kit installed on my '69 but if I were to do it again I would probably go with a Transgo.

I had a B&M shift kit in my AOD, and was not all that impressed. I have seen and heard good things about Transgo shift kits. If I had not found the company I did, I would be running the Transgo.

Thanks for the input guys. That's why I didn't order my shift kit yet because I wanted to know which one to get.

I like my B&M shift kit for the C-4. It came with clear instructions that walked me through the whole process. My thought is that almost anyone with an interest in cars can complete the install in a couple of hours.

We'll get ya through it bro. Don't get all freaked out, it's not hard to do at all.

The only shift kit I've ever owned was a B&M in my truck's C6. It shifted awesome for the 11 years I owned it!

So...I can just take the VB out of the tranny and take it inside to work on.....where it's warm....and then go back outside and slap it back up in the tranny and be done...LOL

Just keep in mind, ur gonna make a mess. 6T9PONY had a good suggestion, I would also put the drain plug in while you have the pan off.
