Help with wiring cooling fan??
I would like to wire my fan where I have two speeds. What is the best way to do this? Two relays with one resistor?
This is an 11 amp fan motor. What size resistor? Thanks! ------------------ 88 347, Twisted wedge heads,Comp Cams 224/230 cam, 1/4=10.718 @ 123.02 mph dyno= http://www.fbody.com/members/LarryS/mustdyno.jpg |
11 amps at 12 volts, thats a hefty resistor. why two speeds?

dinomite,
I want to be able to run my fan when the engine is off. If it is pulling too many amps I'm afraid my battery will discharge too quickly. And to, in cooler weather I want to only run the fans fast enough to cool the engine. |
Whats the reason of having it not run at full speed all the time. If your tryin to maximize fan life, and thermo switch would be the best choice.
I just have a switch inside which I can control as I keep an eye on the temp. Skyler,
A thermo switch is good but I want to be able to run it for a good period of time with engine off and without running the battery down. In other words, I want to cool it down between runs with the engine off. I'm afraid at full speed my battery will go down but yet I want full speed with engine running. |
Unless your battery is old you can run your fan to cool the car down between runs with no problems at all. I cool mine all the way down to 140 between runs and I have a huge fan plus a electric waterpump running off of a old cheap battery with no probs.
