Project Red Venom (362 + AFR 185 +GT40 Tubular Intake)

It's almost time for me to transform my "Red" into "Red Venom".

I'm gonna take out the tired old block with 185,000 miles and drop in a 351 bored out 60 over. I will build the 362 on a stand of course and then pull out the old block and drop in the new one.

These are the parts I have acquired so far...

362 block
AFR 185's
GT-40 tubular intake
351 GT-40 Lower
30 lb injectors
1.6 Roller Rockers
BBK 1 3/4 long tube headers
28 oz Flywheel
Drop Mounts
351 distributor
351 oil pan kit
351 girdle
28 oz Balancer
Crank pulley spacer
a/c-steering bracket
steel distributor gear
oil pump drive shaft
190 lph fuel pump Walbro

About all I'm lacking for the build is the oil pump, the cam(need to send the engine specs to Ed Curtis), new pushrods(I don't think the old ones will work even though they are less than a year old), the 30 lb MAF sample tube and the gaskets. I think I will pick up a windage tray also while the engine is pulled apart.

I know I will be having to upgrade the MAF and TB, as well as the tranny and axles. Give me time...this has been pretty expensive.

I do have a few questions...

1. Am I forgetting anything that I will need?

2. Should I switch back to 3:08's or stick with the 3.73's?

3. What kind of HP would something like this put out?

You should get 400 RWHP pretty easy but that GT-40 intake has to go. I know its the cheap way to go but it "will" choke the hell out of a 362 with AFR 185's.

I personally would go with AFR 205's and a Trick flow or Edlebrock intake for a 362.

Should haul ass even with the GT-40 intake. But you will see that the runners on the GT-40 lower are way smaller than the runner on your heads. You may even have trouble sealing off between the intake and heads becasue of the size difference.

My Canfield heads are 192's and It was a bitch getting a seal between the heads and my ported GT-40 lower.

If you go with a high volume oil pump, make sure your oil gallery plugs are threaded. Stock blocks have pressed in oil gallery plugs and a high volume pump will push them out at about 5,600 rpm. If your engine builder prepped the block, it's probably already been done. My engine builder said you don't need high volume pumps for small block fords. Everybody has their own preferences though. I just ran the stock oil pump with threaded plugs and have had no problem. My engine goes as high as 6,900rpms.

I don't think you need a high volume pump either. How much compression will this engine have?
Oh yeah, you will need hardened pushrods to go with that.
