vin# title search
a friend recently picked up a '69 mustang coupe that has a 10 digit vin#. when i try to do a title search for him to get some history on the car (apparently from arizona) i'm told i must enter a 17 digit vin#. i thought older cars had fewer numbers in the vin, but i can't seem to get around the 17 digit request to get any info on the car for him. any help on this would be appreciated. thanks

Re: vin# title search
Their software probably can't access a vin with less then 17 digits. Can you contact them directly??

Re: vin# title search
thanks for the response. i typed the search into "carfax" not being sure where else to go with this. he thinks the car is from arizona but had california plates, and he has no title at present. any ideas would help. thanks again. gary

Re: vin# title search
You could try the DMV in Calif. or Arizona and see if they have title search. I understand many states do.

Re: vin# title search
1969 should have an 11 digit VIN according to the data decoder book I have, but that still doesn't help if they need 17 digits. Maybe they should try putting 0's in the first 6 spaces to make up 17 digits. Worth a try anyway.
