Bosch Relay for electric fan
 

Well, I have all the parts for this swap minus the Relay and diode. Anyone know where to find the Relay? I found a company on the internet that has them but I have to call them. I was hoping for something a little more local. How about the Diode? The article says an electronic store. Will Radio shack have this? I know some of you guys completed this swap.....so help a brotha out.

I KNOW Radio Shack will have the diode, cross that off your list. The relay shouldn't be too hard to find either. AZ/Advance have the 30 amp jobs, see if they have the 75, or can get ya one. Local radio shops might be able to help out too. Worst case scenario, order a fan relay for a Tortise from your local Blue Oval dealer. ;)

Check how much all these parts are gonna cost and compare that cost ot one of these 35 Amp rated variable speed controllers. I and many others have run these for years with no problems....

Is the wiring of the Variable control unit much more complicated then the other way?

Not much if at all. Not much if you were going to use a single speed fan and not at all if you were going to try and set up a dual speed fan.

Ok, this should be my last question to bug you on. My plans are to set it up on the high speed, since it does the variable control thing on it's own. But from what I have read on the website, I can not tell how you set the temp for when it activates. Most of them have a dial, where as this one I am not following.

Also, I am assuming this gets totally rid of a relay. If it goes bad, looks like the whole unit is shot.
thanks for the help, I wish I could find a number for them so I could call and bug them.

You set the temp with computer board style jumpers on the face of the unit. Yes, the relay is not used at all. Brian (Baskin) builds these from mil-spec style oversized componants for reggedness and reliability. You can emial him from the site if youd like to hear it from the "man".
