Question about the ram air hoods
 

Is this something you usually buy, or are you guys just buying a scoop and installing it to stock hood? This is in regards to a 69 Fastback.

I am thinking that you are asking on how to achieve the ram air look? You can buy the hood already pre made, or you can ad the scoop to the existing hood, as I did.

The next question is are you wanting it to be functional?

Most people buy the hood, that is easiest on something that large. I have a Shelby scoop on my 65, I bonded it on and fiberglassed it in, cut out underneath so it is functional. It is a lot of work, I would buy the whole hood next time.

Yeah, I would like it to be functional. My uncle, who I am helping restore this Mach 1 for, has aspirations of a supercharger, but he can put that in himself as I'm spending too much on it as it is! I personally just like the look. :D

It does sound like a lot of work, and eventually I want to start working on my own project so I guess I'll see if I can buy the hood.

I wonder if it would be better to have a body shop to install just the scoop? Must be cheaper than buying the hood and having it shipped eh?

I really could not tell you which would be cheaper. I had the body shop install mine because my body work skills are not so good. I was repainting the car at the time, a new hood was not cheaper for me. I am actually making mine completely functional right now, including a seal to the under side of the hood. It also has a cold air intake set up for extra air.
