Build me a 5.0!
I've been scouring the web and am coming up with conflicting info. Here's what I'm after: I want to build a 5.0 FI mass air for swapping into a 66 Mustang with an AOD, and I'm looking for at least 275HP at the crank.
Because it's going to be an auto, I'm trying to assemble a good package that gets all the power in before 5500 rpm or so. I'd like to stay with 19lb injectors if possible. So what I'm looking for is good advice regarding aluminum heads, intake manifold, and cam that will work in the range of the AOD with a 2500 stall converter and 3:55 gears. While I don't have a budget set in stone, I don't want to spend twice as much for a particular part to get that last 5% of improvement. ;) Any advice or links will be greatly appreciated. John |
Re: Build me a 5.0!
The Holley systemax 2 kit put out 310 rwhp on mine, but it needed 24 or 30 pph injectors. The kit comes with an intake, heads, cam and a double roller timing chain. Comes in for about 2k from what I remember

Re: Build me a 5.0!
Your goal is easily achieved without spending much money.
GT40P Heads with long tube headers Explorer GT40 intake with 65mm TB Stock 87-93 cam 19# injectors 2 1/2 H-pipe If you shop around you can get 275 fly wheel HP for around 900-1100 bux. I dyno'd 255RWHP with the above set-up except I had ported polished and milled stock heads and 1 5/8 equal length shorties. With the stock cam and long tube headers you would have excellent low end torque to accomidate your auto tranny and it would be very streetable. If you want to spend some money and not go the budget route I would go with AFR 165's over the GT40P's and a trick flow stage 1 cam. You would be in the 320 flywheel HP range then. |
Re: Build me a 5.0!
i thought the P heads needed special headers? although i do know that the hi-po headers will work with those heads ..if he wanted tube headers i dont think those would work with the P's
