power loss

Hi everyone,

I have a stock 89 GT with the 302 5 speed manual trans. Yesterday I noticed a big problem that I believe is engine and not transmission related:

In any gear, if I "floor it" there is a major hesistation or "bog" in the throttle. To the point where the car almost kills. I can gradually accelerate with out this power loss, but not if the the pedal is down. What is going on? At first I thought that there might be a fuel pump issue, but if the transmission is in neutral, the is no hesistation with throttle.

Any suggestions??

Re: power loss

Sounds like timing. Have you made any big changes/tune ups before this started happening? What is the timing set at right now? Pull some plugs and let us know what they look like.

I have not done any tune-ups or engine work on it. I was planning on giving it a tune-up this weekend. I just took it out of storage a couple of weeks ago. I put about 250 miles since storage. It was running fine until last weekend.
