Roush 200 heads
 
Does anyone know what a roush 200 head is suposed to flow. I havn't found the specs anywhere. One place said they did it but you have to pay to get on there site.

thanks! those numbers a little higher than what i came up with when i had mine on the flow bench. I ported them and now my numbers are not adding up so i was wondering what they are suposed to flow.

Make sure they measured them with the same inches of water both times, other wise your compairing apples and oranges.

Care to share the before and after numbers ?

I have a set I haven't touched yet, and I would love to know what yours read on the bench, before and after. :)

When i flowed mine at 28 water pressure they flowed

Now here is the real shittttttyyyyy part. I ported these at school and i go to wyotech. my instructor has done head porting for like 20 years and gets upwards to 1000 dollars to port a set of heads and is good an what he does. On the intake i did little work...i shrank the valve guide a little and opened up the bowl a small amount. I did very little gasket matching work and then put a finish on it with a 50 grit paper roll. on the exhaust we did the same. I also got a new valve job done on them and here are the numbers

This stuff is crazy because some how i lost freakin 37 cfm at .600 on the intake and i really didn't do much of anything to them. after i was coming up with these numbers i thought maybe my orginal flow was high for some reason so i email world and yes they were a little high but by only like 5 cfm no big deal. but at the same time i picked up 76 cfm on the exhaust thats crazy. my intrustor said to me i've been doing this a long time and it just doesn't make any sense that the work done on that intake port would hurt that thing at all. maybe he doesn't know what he is talking about i don't know. i am putting my car back on the dyno here soon to see what happens hopefully that will tell the story. you have to figure though that everything involved in that flow with greatly change when fuel is added into the mix. i will keep you guys posted.

That makes very little sense ... the last readings really look like you switched the intake and exhaust numbers ????

From everything i've read about these heads, doing almost precisely what you did (a little valve guide work and some general clean up), will increase the out of the box flow numbers about 5 to 10%

Almost like something wasn't right with the bench the last test ?

Keep us posted, i'm interested to see how this plays out. :confused:

well well well now i find out that our flow bench is all jacked up so my numbers are no where close to being correct. i'll get back to you if i can readjust me numbers to close estimates.

my advice would be to get rid of those things! A 200cc port that only flows 242cfm @.600 is terrible! My 200cc PTL's flow 296 @ .600

Flow isn't everything by a long shot. I could find some that flow well over 296 i'm sure, but I wouldn't recommend you toss yours !
The Roush 200's are fairly decent heads for the price, and there are quite a few people using them successfully.

You'd be hard pressed to find a true 200cc intake port that flows that much more than 300cfm, yes it can be done, but not by much.

I know flow isn't everything, but you really have to think about it if a 200cc port only flows 240. I mean, even a AFR165 flows more than that!

You say "I know flow isn't everything", then you go right back to talking about max flow at max lift, without discussing anything else ?

These are budget street/strip heads, nobody ever claimed they were all out race heads, or that they were the best heads on the market.
How many street/strip applications ever see .600 lift ? That rating is pretty much meaningless to the application the heads were designed for.

Well flow ISN't everything, but you HAVE to look at it if the numbers are THAT low.

btw, pro toplines are budget heads too
