check engine light
I have a 96 mustang gt that has 142,000 miles on it and the check engine light has come on since I got it. The guy I bought it from said that it is just because he had not takin in the car for it's 75,000 mile checkup. But other than that the car runs like it is brandnew and there is nothing wrong. Sometimes the light comes on and other times it doesn't at all. Any response would be appreciated.
thanks, Monroe GT |
Re: check engine light
It is likely the oxygen sensor that is making the light the come on.

Re: check engine light
You really need to check the codes to see what's causing the MIL. A simple code scanner will do the trick or take it to your favorite qualified mechanic to have the codes dumped.
I just bought a killer code scanner, an OTC Nemisys. It cost $1000 but does almost everything including datalogging off the PCM. It'll pay for itself over time at my shop, but you can get the generic code output from a simple $149 Sunpro code scanner available at Sears, Autozone, etc. Some parts stores will even rent you the code scanner for free....you pay the $149, use it to retrieve the codes, then return the unit for a refund of the $149. |
