Info on 351w strokers
I was lookiong into a 408 from the dss site when I saw they had 357,408 and 427. I was planning on a 408, but the 427 sounds interesting for the price dif. Anyone seen/have one?

Re: Info on 351w strokers
Haven't seen a 427 yet, but that's waaaaay too much. Rod ratio is way outta line, and yes it will absolutely SCREAM. But not for long. They already have 408's coming apart, but there again ALOT of motor for the money. Stick with the 393 for longevity.
Dart just came out with a Man-o-War block that looks pretty killer. Can punch that puppy out to an axle twisting 470 cubes! I'm seriously looking at that one, because after all, the engine in my car is just "temporary". hehehehehe |
Re: Info on 351w strokers
Did a 426 [Speed-o-Motive]. Was just a street/toy car with C-4. Mucho low end power.

Re: Info on 351w strokers
Are you buying the stroker kit or the short block ? because even though there isn`t much price difference in the stroker kits the 427 gets expensive because with the 4.25 ( i think ) stroke that is used you must run a small base circle cam and with the 408 its nothing special just same old 351 stuff, hope it help i was looking in to the same kits then i found mine from a different place

Re: Info on 351w strokers
You`d still be better off with the 408w i spent months lookin at different senarios and finally found in the long run i`d be better off with the 408 , the cam etc is just too much of an extra cost for the power gains , also to take advantage of the 427 cubes you would have to run some pretty good head not to choke it off so say you had the same heads on the 408 and the 427 the 408 would winde much high just because of the fact the head can only allow so much air in with the 408`s smaller displacement the overall air needed to fill the cylinders would be much less than the 427 at the same rpm , so when it comes down to it 427 for bottom end anc choke it off or the 408 which will still great bottom but will make the power for longer. more cubes you go the more everythign else is a limiting factor

Re: Info on 351w strokers
you could always add a power adder to make up the difference!!

Re: Info on 351w strokers
one word needed Juice power when you want it and its not there when you don`t need it

Re: Info on 351w strokers
Actually, I`m planning on using the cleavor heads I have now. And the problem with the juice is, I always need it.lol. Part of the reason I sold my last car, while I still had a license.

Re: Info on 351w strokers
Are they actually called a clevor head ? or do you me Cleveland heads? if so which ones ? the 2bl or the 4bl design ? Because each design has a unique personality , The 2bl heads out flow the 4bl heads down low but just peak really quick and stay there while 4bl catch the 2bl right around .300 lift and fly by them them , this makes the 2bl acually a way nicer street head to use it your looking at a small cam , if you go bigg on cam 4bl heads are your freind . LOL now to think of it your going the exact rout i had planned be for I decided to say to hell with it and make the fastest street car in my area which is coming together .... If they are cleveland heads what are you doing to mate them to the windsor the special intake or the adapter plate , I wanted / still want to make one so if you can give me some info on what your doing with it etc. ...Also if i remeber right you have to run a special cut piston with the cleve heads cuz of the canted valve design .. if you need to know more i have pile of info on the clevor engine mods that need to be done just ask

Re: Info on 351w strokers
Yes, by cleavor I meant Cleavland heads. I have the 2v open chamber heads 2.041 int. 1.654 ext.
There is a really great article on this in Mustang Enthusiast August issue. The title is "Building a Track Boss" if your interested. Theres a link to www.Indymustang.stangnet.com They sell all parts needed as well as complete kits. |
Re: Info on 351w strokers
lol exactly what i was going to do , i have a set ( well three) that i spent 8 hours glass beadin at school when i was planning a cheap streeter motor , which i will probally do with my 79 block after the right bits show up for our boreing bar so i can put a sleeve in it at i put my 69 block .030 over , i had never seen a piston let go like the one in the 79 block though it just ripped apart right at the pin bosses and wedged the piston in a angle in the cylinder , and well round things only fit good in a round hole when they are flat i guess when you try to turn then side ways in there they do some damage who would have figured hey lol

Re: Info on 351w strokers
Just curious, have you found any sites that have run this setup? I guess its not too common.

Re: Info on 351w strokers
I can`t remeber it was about 6 months ago i was looking and debating the clevor idea , but i did remeber the best place you will find stuff about them and people running them would be in a "roundy round" message board all those stock car ford guys tend to run them to take advantage of the oiling of the windsor and the flow of the cleveland , when you think about it and how easy it is you must ask your self "ford why did you just do this to the 302 and not give the 351 the chance with good heads ?" ( the boss 302 basically a clevor ) what all do you need to know i can give ya hand with a bit
like where to find the adapter plates for the intake , or the whole intake , i`ll have to search but i know i have the info some where |
