HELP! Replacing oil pan gasket!

Well, I just got my oil pump replaced that locked up on me the other night and I put on a new oil pan gasket of course. I got the 4 pc. cork and rubber peice set and put it all on. I was having some major proplems trying to get the back rubber seal in place, so I just said screw it and siliconed it to the pan and bolted it in place. I was just hoping it would go in the groove. Well I added oil to the car and it was leaking drop after drop in the back. So Know I have to re due it. I don't know if that gasket just didn't seal or fell into the pan. Is there any tips you guys can give me on how to replace it? Thanks alot.

Were you using any contact adhesive ?This helps a bunch when working upside down.

Screw the 4 piece. Get the Fel-pro 1 piece!! Its a ton easier!!

if your doing the oil pan gasket in anything less than an engine stand then you need the 1 piece rubber..the only 4 peices that i got to never leak were ones i did when i built the motor in an engine stand..and rember ultra-blue is your freind with 4 peices

gotta agree on the i piece thing, there really is no replacing that nicely with a 4 piece , upsidedown. besides the i piece is such a nice piece of equipment, no goo necessary, fits perfect, and comes with these neet little plastic things that hold it in place while you put that pan in place. buy the 1 piece.

Since I have the cork gasket already, I'm going to try it. I have the pan out and I clean the block and pan off real good. I also got some gasket spray addehsive and I'm going to try and spray down the gaskets them use a few bolts to hold them to the block tell they dry and stick to it. Then I will try and raise the pan in place. What do you guys think?

I just had the same problem on Sunday. But I found out once the engine was already in the car and I had to pull it out for a broken oil pump. I'm going to try the one piece unit this time. It seems like it would be easier to get to line up. On the other hand I've heard that the cork seals better. So I guess it's a no win situation.
