Blown head gasket?
Engine started running hot soon after I put on 80 shot of gas,at idle it doesn't but go down the road and it boils out the overflow.
I connected a length of vac. hose to nipple on neck (where the hose that runs to resivoir connects). Started car (cold) and put length of hose into a jug of water and it immediatly started blowing bubbles, I'm told this means the H gasket is blown between cylinder and water passage. Engine doesn't run any diffrent just hot? sound right? |

P.S. head gaskets were pretty fresh as i had heads milled/valve job/new springs/port match intake to heads/exhuast ports to gasket, about 5000 mi. ago
I can't understand why one blew on such a small shot, used fel-pro gaskets can't remember # but sure they had metal rings around cylinders, assembled as per haynes manual torqe specs and patterns |

Yep, 99% chance that its head gaskets. When you take it apart to replace them, go with a multi-layer steel gasket like the Cometic or Mr. Gasket MLS. Also consider going to head studs for more uniform clamping. Use plenty of assembly lube or heavy weight oil on the threads/nuts when torquing, go to spec, let it sit overnight, then 1-by-1 break them loose and immediately re-torque.

Removed intake, there is a puddle of rusty water around valve in #1 port, and traces of rust on head and intake gasket between #1 port and water passage beside it, nowhere else.
Would a leak here produce the same results on "bubble's in the jug" test? Agian it overheats within 2-3 Mi. of driving but won't even go past midway on guage if I just start it and let it sit. Thanks Wes |
