Black and White Plugs behind TB and MAP Question
 

Hey guys, my friend found a couple of plugs (something for fuel) behind the throttle body... two plugs, one black, one white. They look like part of the wiring harness. He has the same two on his, but on my car it had some kind of wierd extensions!?!? We can't figure this out- there was an extension about 6" long on each wire and they matched the plugs perfectly.

Anyway, I wonder also if I need my MAP sensor (I think- on the firewall left of the vacuum tree) hooked up to a vacuum line. My car has no egr or a/c if that has anything to do with it. Thanks! ;)

The extension were part of a recall in 90 & 91. Without the extensions, the harness was a tad too short and resulted in wires/pins pulling from the connectors as the engine moved on the mounts. The extensions effectively provided some strain relief. There should be a sticker on the fan shroud of your buddies car documenting the installation of the extensions as satisfying the voluntary recall.

To answer the second part of your question, if the sensor has a barbed fitting that will accept a vacuum hose then it is ineed a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor and should have a vacuum line attached. If the fitting location has a little loose vent cover where you think the vacuum line should be attached, then it is a BAP sensor (barometric absolute pressure) and should not have a vacuum line attached. The majority of mass air cars have a BAP and should not have the vacuum line attached. Check the vacuum routing diagram in the engine bay to determine actual routing.
