17 x 9's and stock springs?
I have an 89GT. I put 17x9" Cobra R's with 245/45/17 on the front...
As soon as I put them on I realized I had a problem... almost touches the top of the fender on one side, and clears a little better on the other. Soooo... I figure out that it has a 91-93 fender on one side- great! So I order another one to help clearance... My question is, why does neither side fit "Good"? Even the side that rubs less is still pretty bad. I do have drag shocks (90/10) on the front... is that the problem? Also, I don't think the ugly old black springs are stock- will 4cyl springs make my car sit that low in the front? I wonder if they are 4 cyl springs- the previous owner drag raced it. I have been told by many people that 17 X 9's will fit the stock set up... True? Thanks!!! |
Re: 17 x 9's and stock springs?
Usually you have to yank on the fender and stretch it out just a bit. You might even wish to "roll the lip" (do a search) of the fender.
245's are quite do-able. Its when you go bigger, that you have more issues. |

You're right- they'll be doable when I get the stock springs back in there... they were cut! It all makes sense now!

Re: 17 x 9's and stock springs?
i have a quick question i have 17x9 buillit wheels with 275 40 17 tie will that work on my 1992 mustang witgh stock suspension. i also have 17x10.5 with the 315 tire with this work in the back or will i have to roll the wheel wells? the back spacing is 6.83. i need to do 5 lug conversion and was wondering if sn95 spindels and rotors are the best was to go for the front
thanks |
Re: 17 x 9's and stock springs?
THe SN95 spindles are the best way to convert to 5-lug in the front. I did:

Its how much you wish to spend on brakes, and what you neeeeed them to do. I personally needed all the brakes I could have and went Brembo from 2000R and custom 2 piece rotors: http://www.dariusrudis.com/mustang/brakes/img_5524.jpg |
