Oil Leak
It appears that i have an oil leak in the vicinity of where the transmission meets the oil pan. When i step on the gas, smoke [oil] comes up through the center console where the stick shift is. The front of the oil pan, towards the front of the car is dry.
Does the rear seal needs to be replaced? Would a one piece oil pan gasket fix this? |
Re: Oil Leak
best thing to do is warm up the car, shoot it with a can of degreaser, wash it off and let it dry so you can isolate exactly where it's coming from.
either way, oil pan gasket or rear main seal, you are going to have to pull the motor. ...then since it's out, you might as well stroke it, put some heads on it...etc, etc |
Re: Oil Leak
I assume you are talking about a fox body mustang here. These cars have a one piece rear seal which you can change by pulling the transmission. If you have to change the oil pan gasket, then you will at least have to lift the motor up a few inches. Sounds like the rear main seal to me, though. Don't count out the intake gasket either. I am talking about the cork gasket that goes along the lifter valley at the back of the motor between the heads.
