About To Buy 2000 Mustang, But Will It Pass Ca Emissions????
I'm abut to buy a 2000 mustang. It has 36,000 miles on it and was owned by an elderly man so it hasn't been driven much and is in excellent shape. Anyway, I was told that I might have to pay up the wazoo for emissions if it doesn't pass in CA. Does anyone know if I have anything to worry about? I'm paying 8,000 tomorrow to finalize the deal, but I want to make sure I don't have to pay the extra cash when I go back to CA in August. I'll technically be in the military till Oct; I had heard that military don't have to worry about it; I'm in the Army right now. ANyway, any info or pointing in the right direction for info would be much appreciated. Thank you.

As long as the factory emmissions controls are still in place, you should have no problem.

I'm sure you'll be fine since you bought it from an older guy. Where is your home of record? If it's california then you can get plates there. But since you're stationed in GA you can get plates there too. Just for example...my home of record is ohio, my 89 and 00 both have ohio plates. But my 05 escape has TN plates(stationed at FT campbell).

As long as the emissions equipment is still on the car it won't be a problem. When you come to CA go and get the smog check before you even bother with trying to get it tagged. They will just tell you where is your smog check. I bought a truck in GA when i was there and when i moved to CA I had a hard time getting it smoged but it worked out.
Where are you stationed in GA I was at FT. stewart for a year. Did basic at FT. benning. |
