IAP, Throttle body thing?

what does the , IAP i think thats right? its the round thing mounted to the throttle body in front and has an electrical hook coming from the injector harness. my car had a idle of 2000+ rpm and when i replaced it with one i had laying around off a 5.o bronco motor. Put it on and now it idles at a grand. havent taken it for a ride yet , so not sure if it fixed it or not .... this a speed density car with mods so ???????? anyone every had problems with this IAP thing??? please let me know if its possible that was my problem...

IAB - Idle Air Bypass valve. These things are constantly talked about as being one of the cuplprits of the infamous Mustang surging idle problems. Truth be told, I think I tried every trick in the book and still would have idle problems on my old Stang from time to time.

Re: IAP, Throttle body thing?

Usually not....for me, it was only a problem at idle.

You did mention though that your car is speed density with mods. You may want to get advice from others here that are more familar with SD setups. I know that in general, SD cars do not adapt to modifications as well as those equipped with Mass Air. Not that SD cars can't be modded, because many successfully have, it's just that they present different issues than mass air models.

When I disconnect my battery for over 20 min with my SD mods, it takes the EEC about a week or two to get the idle adjusted back in just right. Give it some time and that 1,000 rpm might come down to the 750-800 most like. Did you clean out the IAB (also known as IAC) passages and plunger rod real good when you made the switch.

2,000rpm? Idle down using your linkage... The screw with a spring on the bottom or back of you're TB.

the IAC just lets air pass around (not thru) the throttle body at idle. I replaced mine and it made a world of difference. Sometimes cleaning them won't help if they're too old.

if i unplug the IAC or IAB which ever its called , the car dies is this suppose to happen? I did clean the one out i put on. So If i reinstall my old one it should drive fine, just idle high? This thing is driving me crazy!!!! been fighting with it for almost a month now.... car has been down since I started the intake, underdrives, throttlebody egr , and cold air mod. Did al of this at once.??

Your car is running lean with the addition of a cai. If you didn't adjust your fpr, I'd bet good money that you're lean.
Classic mixture symptoms are a surge at idle (computer detects a lean condition and goes to rich and then back again = surge)
good luck...

oh yeah, check codes!

[hijack]Hey Tmoss- One of these days I'll send you an intake :D

What exactly is wrong with using the idle screw? I've heard a few people say that. The only one (out of 4 mustangs I've had) I've touched it on is the 89GT I have currently. Some idiot previous owner put a different screw in mine[/hijack]

The idle set screw has a certain place to be set for use wityh the IAC controller. If you disconnect the IAC, then you can use the idle set screw to set idle. I run it the way the factory intended.

I think the problem you, Chriswhtmr, have is financing your car projects with the money you scammed off us from these auctions on e-bay.

scammer huh? How about a short explanation so we don't have to dig moovee.

Why it's quite simple. The auctions numbers listed above are the ones he listed and didn't deliver the goods. All to a total of close to $12000. He refuses to see that he was not smart enough to handle a caper of this magnitude and realize that his world is getting smaller the longer he keeps it up. No mustangs to work on during his vacation at Club Fed. Maybe he can get a job making license plates for them.

Thank you Tom. As much as I am loathe to resort to such tactics I feel I was left with no other option. Please spread the word. He should learn that the world is an incredibly small place and his needs to get smaller.
