Help With Header/collector Leak
Fired motor today almost same set up as 88 workcar's but I have AFR 165's And a typhoon intake and long tube headers and H-pipe (all of which I got off E-bay so...) same cam as him TFS #1 but I did go to mass air w/24# squirters, 73mm C&L.
So I have a MASSIVE exhaust leak at the headers and H-pipe they looked to be in good shape but the flanges on the pipe were bent so I figured somone had trouble getting them to seal and sure enough even with a few washers in front of the bolts they both leak really BAD. The ball and socket look to be meeting up good and square but they are tight I may have bent the flanges more. Any suggestions? I have no exp. w/ L-tubes but the ball and socket on my shorties never leaked. Is there some kind of seal or gasket that should be in there? Can a muffler shop help me, I know a guy I trust that owns one. They are supposed to be MAC pieces but I can't tell. Thanks guys Wes |
Re: Help With Header/collector Leak
Permatex Ultra Copper my friend. I know guys that use it INSTEAD of header gaskets. I'd never do such a thing, but it sure works!
Try a light bead around the ball, follow the destructions on it. See what happens, I'm bettin you'll be happy. :D |
Re: Help With Header/collector Leak
When I bought my o/r x for my 90 GT (I have MAC shorty headers), I had a leak I couldnt fix. We tried cinching it up with an impact, and it just wouldnt go away. We eventually had to cut the pipe on the x pipe, bolt it up to the header, and weld a sleeve over the pipe to cover the gap.
