Looking for advice on passing sniff test

I have to get my bi-yearly inspection tomorrow. Any advice for passing the dyno-based emissions test? I've heard rumors that products such as dry gas can help...any truth to that? I'm not using any smog equipment or cats btw.

whats a bi-yearly inspection and do they really stick your car on a dyno?

We have the same tests here in MD, on a dyno.

I usually make sure the air cleaner is good and do an oil change.

I just had my van done Thursday. Passed OK.
I hate those danged inspections, another way for the state to get more money. Cost $14. Have to do it every 2 years.

You should make sure your car is tuned. Not sure what year your car is but here if its OBD II they just plug into the computer and check for codes. If earlier they run it on the dyno.

Heres a few things that got me through. Run high octane gas like 93, a can or two of HEAT helps, make sure your car is HOT, drive it for atleast 30 minutes before the test and dont shut it off before the test if possible. if your not running cats you may be in trouble anyway, were i live they check for cats before the test. Good luck.

My gawd, I'm glad I live in Ohio. We're a "run what ya brung" state. We don't have ANY of that. On the downside, there are more than one REAL junkyard candidates still on the road.

That REALLY sucks, I feel bad for you guys! Seriously!

The dyno is not to check horespower, it just simulates the car running on the road.

As mentioned above, later cars don't need to be run on the dyno, they just plug into the computer to get the reading.

Heck, I'd find a reason to move to a friendlier state.

Yes it totally sucks. This frustration, along with the prices of insurance and gas make me really think about just racing the car. I'd like to be able to enjoy it on the street but it's becoming harder and harder.

It's a 93 so it has to go on the damn dyno....so ridiculous. They sim the driving conditions, and it failed on the deceleration. No cats and a pretty lumpy cam - Ford Racing "Z" equivalent. Needless to say she failed...now I have 60 days to make a decision and potentially take her off the road and trailor it to the track. I need to move...

I use to have problems with my 92 camaro with emmision testing. One thing I found was to make an exhaust leak were my cat bolted to the y-pipe. Seemed to get me through. I also tried this stuff called "guarenteed to pass". It did lower my emmsions, not enough, but got me closer with the exhaust leak I managed to make it. This is the last year for emmsion testing here. Thank god. Good luck.

Im telling you, 2 or 3 bottles of heat and youll pass. Guy at work had a 93 v6 camaro that was blowing smoke, 3 bottles of heat and it lowered his emission like 1 point, way below the max allowable.

Pull an injector wire off. You'll be running plain air through one cylinder so the PPM's will drop a bunch. Denatured alcohol works too :D

How far off were you?

BTW, higher octane burns slower, so you'll have more unburned gas in the exhaust.
