Clutch question
I have a 1966 mustang with a 289 and a 4 speed transmission. I'm having trouble getting the clutch to disengage so I can get it into gears while the engine is on. It seems like I can shift it with the engine off but like I said once it is on I can't seem to get it to shift into the gears(I just grind them). Is there anyone that can help me? PLEASE:)

Re: Clutch question
Has the car been sitting along time?? If so, the clutch might be rusted to the flywheel. If not....Well, either the clutch is way out of adjustment or it is shot.

Re: Clutch question
cool thanks, Car hasn't been sittin that long and we just took the transmission loose to check to see if everything was put together correctly. Checkin to make sure linkage is all set before I spend money on another clutch. But that will be the next thing if the linkage is ok. thanks again.

Re: Clutch question
Play with the adjustment, which is a rod sticking out of the firewall with a nut you can adjust back and forth. (I think there are actually two nuts..., cant remember) anyway, what I did is I just went to one extreme, figured out what that did, then went from there. One way will make it so just a slight release of the clutch pedal it will start engaging, while the other you will have to put the pedal all the way out and it will probably still be slipping. Good luck.

Re: Clutch question
Has the flywheel been machined? Sometimes the weiner running the lathe can cut off way more than he is suppose to, causing just such a problem. If it is under spec. it can be either replaced (thats what i would do) or if you just wanna run it for a year or so you can shim the flywheel by putting a shim between the crankshaft and the flywheel. Dont know if I helped or not in your situation but, been there, done that, wrote the book LOL.

Re: Clutch question
I dunno what the deal is guys. The flywheel, clutch plate and pressure plate are all brand new. I'm thinking I just don't have enough throw in my equalizer bar but I have no idea which other bar to try. Anything else you guys can think of...it would be much appreciated. I'm waiting to get this baby on the road. thanks
