Heads, is bigger better?

I currently own a 2003 GT, and have some bolt ons but wanted to take it up a notch and add some heads. Ive been considering and comparing, Fox Lakes stage 2 heads and patriot performance's stage 3 heads. The Fox Lake heads feature 2.23intake and 1.95 exhaust valves, the PPstage3's 1.84 and 1.45. Does bigger automatically mean better? Am i getting in over my head by not beefing up the lower end first? Anyways any help offered here would help me make my decision. Thank you...

I've read in multiple places that Patriot's heads are lacking in quality, specifically the valve guides leaking/coming loose. Most guys seem to like Fox lake or VT heads.
To answer your question, bigger is rarely better especially if your car is a daily driver. The larger the ports and valves, usually means the car will make greater power but it shifts the power higher and higher up in the rpm band and the lower end of the rpm band loses power. You need to deside what you want from the car. If max hp is your goal then get bigger, if you want an all around fun car that has more power, get slightly bigger. jmho.

I'm going to headswap my 98 gt and get fox lake stage 1's and comp cams 262ah. I feel it will improve the power all through the powerband which will make a fun daily driver. jmho.

With stock compression or no boost (S/C) I wouldn't say it would be worth it...

"46stang" I just sold my 268's...ever consider them? great mid-range power.

I need it to idle like or as near as stock as possible for CA. smog laws. I think the 262's will be perfect for my needs. Thanks.
