Installing SFI bell-housing

We're in the last steps of upgrading our 88GT, clutch, trans, and bell housing. We're puting in a Tremac trans, an SFI certified flex plate, bell housing, and flywheel.

Is there any tricks to installing the bell housing with long tube headers installed, or do the headers have to be taken out to mount the bell housing. I'm hoping there's a trick to this, as this would stink if the headers have to be pulled lose to mount.

you'll definately have to at least loosen the headers from the heads. I had to completely loosen both sides and leave them hanging.

Make sure you check the runout on the bellhousing, otherwise input shaft failure could occur. If you've not seen how to do this before. Install the bellhousing without the clutch installed, put a magnetic base dial indicator on the flywheel and check the runout from the 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock, and 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock positions on the rear hole of the bell (where the trans goes in). If it is out more than .005" in any direction, you will need offset alignment dowels.

good luck,
