Faled smog referee/ air filter

Well, I took my car to the California smog referee today and got dinged for not having the right air intake/air filter.

The is my project 85 rx-7, that I swapped in the motor , computer, F.I, from a 91 mustang .

So if anyone knows of a "legal" , meaning it has an EO number , air intake/filter that would work, could you please let me know about it.

This sucks , it's like getting a 97 on a test but still failing.

Thanks,
Stan

Personally, I would find someone in the emissions department and present your case.

Don't be a jerk, just explain that there is no stock intake for this application.

If that doesn't work then go out and get some stock looking intake parts. Maybe you can still BS the referee?

Maybe one of the major CAI companies have emissions numbers?
MAC or BBK may work?

Did you at least get to run through the sniffer test?

Thanks, there is no "reasoning " with these people.

I'll try calling a few intake makers

If not, I fooled around a bit this AM and found I could fit the stock intake in there, although as you know the Mustang gets it air through a hole in the fender , but it will be the stock ford part which is all they seem to care about .

The only other thing i failed , was I used the mazda carbon filter, and again, I have to use the ford part.

I passed the all the other things including the sniffer and the scan for codes, so it won't be a problem .

Shortly, mustang power , but 500 lbs lighter !

Re: Faled smog referee/ air filter

I have "corrected " the deficiencies.

K & N makes a filter that has the EO exemption .
I ordered it from summit telling the guy I only wanted it if it came w/ the EO sticker.
So of course when it arrived ,the sticker was missing .
K & N said it would take 2 weeks to get me one, but Summit came through and mailed me a replacement next day mail.

Looks just like the air filter I had but cost $ 100 more .

I replaced the carbon cannister w/ the Ford unit.

I have an appointment w/ the smog ref tomorrow, but it should pass now.

$100 for a filter??? Either they have really gone up in price, or someone gave you the pole man.
