If I remeber correctly I just used a long screw driver I pushed it through the gorment(sp?). I think it was the clutch cable or speedo. I have three wires running throught mine and no drilling works great.

I am using mechanical gauges, need a big hole for the temp gauge fitting.

pop the grommet out and carefully put a slice in it with a razor. then you can push the water fitting through.
