Oil

Just curious as to what brand, type and weight of oil you guys use in your Mustangs.

I've been using Mobil One Synthetic, 10W/30.......Someone told my to try Shell Rotella Truck oil. It's also a synthetic oil but costs a lot less then Mobil One.
Thanks,
Phil

I use whatever synthetic is on sale. Castrol had a killer sale at advance about 2 months ago. It was like 2 bucks a quart.

Rotella is good oil and is what alot of shops use.

I use 10/30 or 10/40. Motorcraft filter only FL1A. Phram uses cardboard and can collaspe.

I run castrol GTX 10w30 in the '89, and castrol syntec 5w30 in the '00.

Re: Oil

i would stick w/ the mobil 1. truck diesels only go as high as 35-3800 rmp and take a great bearing load from the massive compression and are made to deal w/ diesel fuel getting into the oil.mobil 1 is more designed for high reving motors w/ lots of hp.

Re: Oil

I run Valvoline Racing oil. Straight 50 weight.

I change my oil after every 50 1/4 mile passes.

Track only car.

50 weight? Wow! I'd bet that's costing you some pretty serious HP. I've seen as much as 12hp on the engine dyno going from 10W30 to Royal Purple Racing 11. 50 weight must take forever to make it back to the pan, during which its creating windage on everything from the valve springs to camshaft to crank.

It doesnt seem much thicker than 10-30 weight to me.

My motor lasted several hundred passes before I had any issues.

I may try the royal purple just for kicks.

Here is what i use.

Try the Racing 9. It's got the consistency of warm WD-40! I'll use it occasionally on Sundays for eliminations, but 3 or 4 passes down track and it's pretty much done. Most of the time I'll just run Racing 11. Its pretty much equivalent to 5W20.

I have had great results with Royal Purple 20/50w. I have an older engine and it runs great. Since I don't have a 1/4 mile track here, I do mostly SCCA Solo II.
