check engine light stay on

i just purchased a 1998 mustang gt 4.6. the check engine light stays on. the dealer said he took it to the ford garage and had it hooked to a computer. they said it had a cracked intake. he replaced this but the light is still on. he told me to reset the computer by disconnecting the battery and plugging it back in....will this work???

yes that can work but if it does not then you need to take it and have the code read that way you know for sure what it is

ANY repeputable shop would have cleared the code, then test driven the car to make sure that the code did not come back on......Something is suspect there.

I have a BBk exhaust system. The two rear o2 sensors are not present. Could this possibly be causing the check engine light to stay on? also, im thinking about going back to the stock exhaust system. how much could i get for my bbk exhaust? it is in excellent condition.

If the rear O2's aren't there and they haven't been turned off by a tuner/chip of some sort then yeah that'll cause a check engine light. Take the car down to auto zone and have them scan the codes (it's free) then post 'em up.

I took my 98 gt and had a scan ran for codes . the code that was found is P0420 CATALYST EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD ( BANK 1). DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE????

Your rear O2's are causing that code. I'm suprised you're not getting P4030 also (bank 2).

Yep rear O2's aren't tuned out...I things to tune them out, but that doesn't do you any good. Oh well...go back to stock and be done with it. You could get about $150 or so for a set of used Off-road pipes.....if your lucky.

I would imagine you could weld in bungs and put your 02 censors in your headers, though I've never done this and its just what I've heard.
