Hi-Torque Starter Wiring Question
I recently bought a Hi-torque starter (p/n M11000-B51), which didn't have any wiring schematics with it:mad: . I downloaded a set of instructions that claimed to work for several different starters, including the 1.1 kW starter and the old Hi-torque starter (M11000-B50). I wired the starter according to the schematic with those instructions. The starter cable (thick wire) was run from the positive side of the starter relay (same side as the positive battery cable), to the 8mm stud on the starter solenoid. The second wire (12 guage skinny wire) was run from the other side of the relay to the 4mm stud on the solenoid.
I think that the wiring diagram was backwards because the loop on the thick wire doesn't go over the 8mm stud, and the loop on the skinny wire fits perfectly over the 8mm stud. I filed the hole on the thick wire, and after hooking it up according to the diagram, the starter spins, but doesn't kick over and engage the flywheel. I think that i need to swap the wires on the starter, just wondering if anyone has any experience with this or knows why the starter wouldn't be kicking over. Any links to a correct schematic would also be appreciated |

The heavy wire goes to the heavy post, light wire to the light post of the starter relay (on the starter). Right now you are constantly energizing the relay and with the light wire to the starter body are only providing limited amperage to the starter motor. It'll spin, but it doesn't have enough oooomph to throw the bendix. Reverse the wiring at the starter. |
