TRANNY RATINGS
I used to have a page bookmarked that showed the hp and tq ratings of all the mustang trannys. Does anyone know where I can find it? Also what is the 01 GT tranny rated at? 300 ft lbs?

1979-1982 SROD 4 Speed. Very little is known about the SROD in terms of holding ability. It's stands for Single Rail OverDrive. It's the old Ford Toploader tranny with an aluminum case, and different gearing and shift linkage. The Jeeps used the real Toploader named SROD, but it had no overdrive, just like the original Toploader.
1983-1984 Borg Warner T-5. 260 ft/lbs. 2.95 1st gear 1985-1989 Borg Warner T-5. 260ft/lbs. 3.35 1st gear, upgraded syncros. 1990-1993 Borg Warner T-5. 300ft/lbs. 3.35 1st gear, stronger alloy gears. 1993-1993 Borg Warner T-5. 310ft/lbs. 3.35 1st gear, Cobra, tapered roller bearing, phosphate coated gears. 1994-1995 Borg Warner T-5. 300ft/lbs. 3.35 1st gear, different input shaft from Fox's. 1994-1995 Borg Warner T-5. 310ft/lbs. 3.35 1st gear ratio, same as previous Cobra but with a different input shaft. 7/8" longer than the Fox's. 1995-1995 Tremec 3550. 330lbs or so, Cobra R only. 1996-2001 Borg Warner T-45. I believe it retained the same 300ft/lb rating. |
Thanks for the info unit. Since I'm pushing about 380 ft lbs, is something bound to break on my tranny sooner or later? It shifts great, with only a slight 3rd gear grind, and I've beat the hell out of it since I got it at 74k (now has 104). How do they come up with these ratings, and how accurate are they? My buddy who just bought an 01 GT is paranoid about breaking his tranny. I told him what I thought the rating was (300) and he said "Oh phuck...I'm screwed". Didn't ford start using the tremec 3650 in february? His was made before then, so that's why he is so paranoid.
