Headlight Assembly
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the forum and rebuilding my first mustang, or car for that matter. After disassembly last fall I took the headlights apart, which were pretty much held in by string and a prayer. I have new buckets and ordered new hardware. Now that I am reassembling I have no idea where the little spring that came in the kit goes. I have the posts on and can see how the headlight goes into the bucket, the trim ring attaches, and how this twists on the posts. But I see no place for this small spring or what its purpose is. Can anyone help? Thanks |
Re: Headlight Assembly
Um, I cant completely remember how the spring goes...it helps keep it tight to adjust it if I remember correctly. Since your rebuilding your entire car, I would recommend a Chiltons guide, very helpful. Others on this board recommend the ford assembly manual (I believe that is what its called)

Re: Headlight Assembly
On the bottom of the bucket, off to one side you'll see a small hole for the spring so that the tension is on the retainer ring when you pull it up over the lamp to attach the two screws. It is a "strong" little spring too.
Hope that helps. |
Re: Headlight Assembly
I was going to take a picture of mine, but then found there really isnt a way to see it unless I took it apart. I then went and checked my Chiltons guide, which doesnt even have a good picture of the headlight assembly. If you cant figure it out i can take mine semi-apart and take a picture, but Dave gave you a good description.
